An Update on the 2012 Participation

So Switzerland have completed their National Final process. Also with their confirmed National Final dates or performers are: Albania, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Malta, Norway, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey. Not forgetting Azerbaijan as host nation. This gives us a total of 22 confirmed participants.

The following are listed on Wikipedia as participating, but this should not be taken as 100%, as their sources are not always correct. These countries are: Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro (Returning Country), Netherlands, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Ukraine and United Kingdom. If all these countries are to participate, this would bring the total up to 40 participants.

Although unlikely to happen, Morocco is rumoured to be making a return after their one and only participation in 1980. Possible withdrawels though are coming from Armenia, Poland and Slovakia. There is no indication on the situation with Russia. If all these countries were to participate in 2012, we could be looking at a record breaking Participation List of 45 countries, although realistically we should be looking around the 42 or 43 mark again.

Let The 2012 National Finals Begin!

Last night, the first National Final of the 2012 season took place in Switzerland. Sinplus eventually won the Swiss final with the song, ‘Unbreakable’ – beating the first ever winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Lys Assia, who finished 8th. Below is a link from the National Final performance of ‘Unbreakable’, which is a 2 minute abridged version of the song.

Welcome to the escppEurovisionBlog

Welcome to my brand new Blog from escppEurovision – ready for the 2012 Eurovision National Final Season, as well as the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2011, to be held in Yerevan, Armenia. escppEurovision began on the 9th April 2005 – 6 years ago. Here I bring you it’s blog companion. Originally the website started as ‘Eurovision Song Contest Past & Present’, hence the name ‘escpp’.

This Blog will obviously begin with the start of the 2012 National Finals, as well as this year’s Junior Eurovision. However I would like to point out a couple of ‘Daily Blogs’ I have planned for you.

‘Stockholm Calling’ will cover my adventure at the Melodifestivalen Final, to be covered between Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th March 2012. Of course I have plans for the main event – ‘From Baku & Beyond’, where there will be my coverage from Sunday 20th – Sunday 27th May 2012.

If I am able to attend any other National Finals for the 2012 season, they will of course be also covered. Please stay tuned for my next Blog, as I will be reviewing which countries have commited to 2012 so far & whether Baku 2012 will have a participation of 43 countries or better like Belgrade 2008 or Dusseldorf 2011.
